Overview
Eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo is affected by overlapping conflicts involving state forces, M23 and many other armed groups. The current M23 crisis is part of a much longer history of conflict in the east and should not be treated as the only source of violence or displacement.
Displacement
UNHCR’s DRC country page reports 6.9 million internally displaced people, with more than 5 million in the eastern provinces of North Kivu, South Kivu and Ituri. Because displacement figures change rapidly and may use different reference dates, CAWT cites the source and does not combine them with unrelated datasets.
