Overview
The Russia–Ukraine war began in 2014 and entered a full-scale phase when the Russian Federation invaded Ukraine on 24 February 2022. Fighting, missile and drone attacks, aerial bombardment and short-range drone strikes continue to cause civilian harm across Ukraine.

Latest verified civilian-harm picture
The UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine (HRMMU) reported that at least 372 civilians were killed and 2,349 injured in August 2026. For January–August 2026, HRMMU verified 2,222 civilians killed and 13,058 injured in Ukraine. The mission said that total civilian casualties in the first eight months of 2026 were 55% higher than in the same period in 2025.
HRMMU also records allegations concerning occupied territory and the Russian Federation, but states that it cannot independently verify the vast majority of those allegations because of limited access and independent sources. CAWT therefore does not merge those alleged figures with HRMMU’s verified Ukraine total.
