Key figureNearly 13 million forced to flee their homes
UNHCR states that the war in Sudan has forced nearly 13 million people to flee their homes. Its emergency page lists 10.1 million internally displaced people and over 3.2 million people who fled Sudan to neighbouring countries.
Date caution: the UNHCR page labels these headline population figures as updated in December 2025 even though the emergency page remains active in 2026. CAWT retains that dating rather than presenting the figures as a September 2026 census.
